For the Teachers in the Trenches

Dear Lord,

I pray for the teachers who are preparing for the school year. Right now classrooms are clean, and hopes are high. Whether it be the first day or the first grading period, something will happen to put a chink in their armor, to cause doubt in their mind, or to make them question their ability. May they remember their calling. But may they also remember that Your love empowers them with strength, grace, and courage to take each step throughout the year.

For the teacher who had a tough summer and didn’t get the restoration she needed, may she know that You are with her.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 NIV

For the new teachers, that you would protect their enthusiasm and provide wise mentors.

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established, through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. Proverbs 24:3-4 NIV

May they personally grow with You.

Come near to God and He will come near to You. James 4:8 NIV

May the parents of their communities partner with them in their efforts.

May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17 NIV

May you give them courage to represent You to their students, administrators, fellow teachers, and parents, if not through their words, then through their actions.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 NIV

May You stretch their paychecks and provide for them exponentially.

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NIV

May You give them opportunities to be a light to their students with powerful actions of love.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23 NIV

May You show them where to teach more than just the curriculum.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6 NIV

And no matter what challenges they face this year, remind them that You are bigger than anything that comes their way.

Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says The LORD, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10 NIV

May you protect their immune systems, grant them extra grace to extend to others, and humor when they most need it. Show them how to balance their lives, give them meaningful rest, and remind them of Your presence. Because You’ve gifted them to take on the biggest job in the world by entrusting them with Your children.

Strengthen our teachers. Encourage our teachers. Empower our teachers.

In Jesus’ name,
